17 Ways Rich People think Different to Poor People

The rich and poor think in very different ways, and that’s the real difference between them. If you’ve been in a pattern of financial lack or a lack of progress all your business life, then you need to examine your thinking and adjust it to match your goals.

The best way to determine what mental patterns are running your financial life is to look at your results, then ask yourself these revealing questions…

  1. Do you consistently earn large amounts or small amounts of money?
  2. Is your income consistent or inconsistent?
  3. Do you struggle for money or does money come easily?
  4. When you have money, are you an investor or a spender?
  5. What’s the highest amount your mind has ever let you earn?

It’s important to realize that no matter what your current money pattern is, you can improve it or even change it completely if you want to. The first step is awareness – Awareness of what patterns have been creating your current  results and how they differ from the patterns you should be running.

To get you started, here 17 ways Rich people think different from poor people (From T. Harv Eker’s book “The Millionaire Mind” – Read it!);

  1. Rich people believe “I create my life.” Poor people believe “Life happens to me.”
  2. Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.
  3. Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.
  4. Rich people think big. Poor people think small.
  5. Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
  6. Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people.
  7. Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people.
  8. Rich people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion.
  9. Rich people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems.
  10. Rich people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers.
  11. Rich people choose to get paid based on results. Poor people choose to get paid based on time.
  12. Rich people think “both.” Poor people think “either/or.”
  13. Rich people focus on their net worth. Poor people focus on their working income.
  14. Rich people manage their money well. Poor people mismanage their money well.
  15. Rich people have their money work hard for them. Poor people work hard for their money.
  16. Rich people act in spite of fear. Poor people let fear stop them.
  17. Rich people constantly learn and grow. Poor people think they already know.

You must acquire the mental patterns that create wealth and put them to use immediately. Remember, we are creatures of habit, and therefore the habit of managing your money (and mind) effectively is more important than the amount you’re on today.

  3. Max!!Greetings to you.I just want to say just today as I was going to church my husband and I were discussing about businesses. He has a business that he is in.Very small business he is in and when I started to talk about expanding the business to Zimbabwe and doing more he then started to tell me about the “trend in Zimbabwe” and how business is not good in Zim. By the time we got to church he was angry with me coz I had told him that if Millionaires thought of trends and followed trends they would not be as rich as they are, but because they are risk takers and they think big that is why they are rich. Guess what??By the time we parked the car to go to church he threw the cars at me and took a taxi back home coz he was angry because I was trying to make him THINK BIG!!!I had to go into church without him and drive myself home after church!!! So you are right !!! Poor people always have excuses for their poverty and always bury themselves in self pity.God Bless you my brother. You sure will be hearing from me soon coz I need a company in Zim.

  8. good work , people who think big and take risk in their life will become rich
like people in an broken boat drive to survive for life takes them to shore

  9. Very good advice and rules to follow if you want to get rich. I believe it is all about mindset when it comes to succeeding in any area of your life. First you have to think it and then believe it and you are already half way to receiving whatever it is that you want in life. If you learn from those who have already achieved what you want then you can save years in achieving it yourself by avoiding their mistakes. Follow the best and you can jump start your life goals. So why not first start thinking like a millionaire so you to can open the doors to the opportunities that are only visable to a millionaire mindset. Apply this to all aspects of your life and you will be living a rich fulfilling life.
    “Think and grow rich”
“whatever the mind can believe and conceive, the mind will achieve ”
“As man thinking so shall a man become ”
    “Thoughts become things”
You first have to think positively about what you want and then move. Without the thought in the direction of where you want to go, you could not even get out of bed or off the couch.
Take the time to think correctly an learn to build your million dollar mind muscle. I wish all that read the best in living an amazing life in the way that you see as amazing. Just think about it!!!

  10. hard to swallow but quite a revelation, if taken seriously, will all be rich. its all about change of mindset! thanx

  11. I have an audio book of T H Eker’s ‘Millionaire Mind’ and have listened to it several times, and the trick (for me at least) seems to be in acheiving consistent application of each of these characteristics.

  12. Im actual read an article and was instructed to write an argumentive essay on wealthier individuals and how they do not interact with the poor. Murray, the writer, suggested that the government sets up and archipelago whereas the poor and rich reside on the same island. I see no logic in changing an individual unless they want to change.

I see no logic in changing an individuals environment to enhance his or her life. Ultimately, I agree with Max.

  14. So very true! And I have seen both sides of this coin in my family. I definitely ‘think rich’ while my in-laws ‘think poor’. The difference in how we live and choose to spend our money is evident in our quality of our lives. While I may not wear any brand names nor drive a fancy car. I live a very stable and sustained lifestyle. Whereas the in-laws are constantly moving from one house to the next and having their fancy cars repossessed.

  15. I agree wholeheartedly in what you have shared here. However, I think self confidence also plays a role. I have gone through 5 major career shifts in my life, each one teaching me new things. However, it took a while to develop the self confidence needed to really succeed. I passed up opportunities in my early career because I didn’t believe in myself. I could have been financially secure much earlier if I hadn’t. The lesson here: believe in yourself, step out. If it doesn’t work out, its an opportunity to try something new, not a failure.

  16. Max am really inspired, infact it confirms what I have been praying for, I need to change my mindset – I am rich!!!

  17. Max I have been following your write ups for a while ” excellent” and anyone that practices what you write can make it in life.
You inspire me keep it up

  18. TATIZO MTAJI SIO KUPENDA SEMA NDO HIVO. KWA BONGO WALIMUWENGI NI MASKINI MAANA HAWAWAZI KUPOTEZA ILA KUPATA. YAANI WANATAFUTA PESA ON TIME BASIS

  19. How I would also love to start a business in Zimbabwe. I am beyond inspired by this post. It’s time for action now!

  20. First time on this website, but I can happily say it has been a big eye opener to me. Thanks Max and rest of the guys sharing very educative and constructive views. Wish all of you the best.

  21. 王侯将相,宁有种乎!
    天行健,君子自强不息!
    有志者事竟成!
    物以类聚,人以群分。
    古人已总结得非常精辟,可惜大道失传久矣!

  22. I am a rich person so i am leaving a comment. Thanx for the great article. I appreciate such kind of articles because they stir my mind, my imagination and show me that i can do it if i really want to. Thank you Max. You will definitely be reading about me one day.

  23. It took three decades of slow-steady growth for my wife and me, but we finally consider ourselves fairly wealthy. We own several businesses and a fair amount of income producing real estate. We are in the top 99.2% of Americans and expect to be 99.4% in the next three years. I recently asked a good friend why he is wealthy. He keeps trying things and going broke, or nearly broke…sometimes losing millions of dollars at a time. He is currently VERY wealthy…again and will pre-tax net over a million dollars this year on just one of his projects. He said the main reason he has wealth, is that “he makes things happen”. While others sit and wait for something to happen, when his work is slow: he CREATES a large job, or a new business, and as a result he has another opportunity to make a fortune. The moral is: don’t wait…create an opportunity now.

  24. I am browsing on on the internet in excess of Three hours of late, yet I actually hardly ever observed just about any useful write-up just like your own property. It truly is charming cost adequate in my opinion. In my view, if almost all webmasters and also bloggers manufactured good content material because you have, the world wide web might be a much bigger useful than ever.

  25. Do you have a spam problem on this blog; I also am a blogger,
and I was curious about your situation; we have developed some nice methods
and we are looking to trade methods with others, why not shoot me an email if interested.

  26. I’m only 20 and live in Harare. As I grew up I always fancied rich people and wondered when I was going to escape poverty and start living. Now that I’m acquiring more knowledge in business, I’ve learned that being poor is only a state of mind. If you want to be successful you have to sit down, decide to be rich and plan on how you’re going to be rich. After that be patient and achieve your goals bit by bit and magical things will start Happening, opportunities you would have blindly passed by will reveal themselves. I’m living up to my means, starting small businesses I know they will grow as long as I maintain persistence.. I no longer hope to be rich one day, I will be a multi-millionaire and nothing is gonna stop me

  27. Younger folks often tell me that they have no money to start with. I ask them if they have a quarter, or a dollar. If you have a anything, you can start earning a large return on your investment simply by going to a yard sale and finding something that someone else may want that you can buy for a dollar and sell for more than a dollar. I started buying and selling with $160…it has grown into a multi-million dollar business and over $6M in assets. I wanted to see if it was still possible, and to make sure that I was dispensing accurate information, so I went to one yard sale a few weeks ago and spent $60…a few hours later, after posting my purchase on craigslist.com for sale, I sold the purchase for $125, proving that it can still be done. Unfortunately, there are so many people that can come up with reason after reason why they can not do something as simple as this…I think they just do not want to be helped out of their less fortunate circumstances. We live in a world full of opportunity. I believe that if you can visualize it, you can eventually achieve it.

  28. I was recommended this blog by my cousin. I’m not sure whether this post is written by him as no one
else know such detailed about my trouble. You are incredible!
    Thanks!

  29. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that
“perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance.
I must say that you’ve done a fantastic job with this.
Also, the blog loads super quick for me on Chrome.
    Superb Blog!
